The
Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) of Pakistan ,
recently held a 2-day international conference in Islamabad , in collaboration with the Middle
East Solar Industry Associations (MESIA)- a Trade Mission comprising of 200
senior officials from leading solar companies. The aim of this “Renewable
Energy Trade Mission” is to create an enabling environment for investments in
the solar energy sector of Pakistan .
International
Finance Corporation (IFC) was a key strategic partner of this assembly. The
conference was held on October 13th and 14th, 2015, attracting enthusiastic
participation from all leading Pakistani enterprises and investors operating in
the renewable-energy industry.
The
Chief Executive Officer of Reon Energy Ltd. (the renewable energy division of
Dawood Hercules Group) - Mr. InamurRahman stated during his address to the
conference that the forum has created many great opportunities for us to
engage, learn and partner with world renowned experts and global technology
leaders in renewable energy. Reon looks forward to partnerships and ventures in
the renewable energy sector.
InamurRahman
urged the government to enhance the skill levels at NEPRA and increase
participation of major stakeholders for effective formulation of policies and
programmes conducive for the solar energy sector. The feed-in tariff should be equally beneficial
for the investors, the government, and the consumers. He also said that this
insightful forum would help in realigning the regulatory framework, to suit the
changing needs of this industry, create a favorable business & financing
environment while optimizing the power-purchase deals.
Other
leading individuals present at the event were; CEO of AEDB - Amjad Ali, Member
NEPRA - KhawajaNaeem, Secretary Energy for Punjab - Dr. Asad Rehman Gilani and
Secretary Energy for Sindh - Mr. Agha Wasif Abbas, along with many other
stakeholders and distinguished guests. In April, 2015, MESIA had organized a
similar Trade Mission for Renewable Energy in Cairo which raised
investments worth USD 500 million (220 MW solar and 100 MW wind) for renewable
energy projects.
